Is JellyWatch for Android TV the same app as the mobile version?
No. JellyWatch for Android TV is a separate app built from the ground up for the 10-foot TV experience. It shares the same backend (your Jellyfin server) but has a completely different interface optimised for remote control navigation.
Is Premium shared between mobile and TV?
No. JellyWatch TV Premium is a separate one-time purchase from the mobile Admin Features / WatchPass products. Purchasing one does not unlock the other. Each app has its own independent Premium tier.
| App | Premium product | Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Android TV | JellyWatch TV Premium | TV customisation, Kids Profile, Multi-Server, Home Assistant… |
| Mobile | Admin Features + WatchPass | Server management, widgets, notifications… |
What does Kids Profile do?
Kids Profile activates a simplified, child-friendly interface with large cards, a bright colour scheme, and all adult navigation items hidden behind a parental PIN. It is a Premium feature - see the Kids Profile page for setup instructions.
What are Multi-Server & Multi-Profile?
Multi-Server lets you link multiple Jellyfin servers into a single unified home screen - see the Multi-Server & Multi-Profile page for details. Multi-Profile lets each household member have their own account. Both are Premium features.
Can I control my smart home lights with JellyWatch TV?
Yes. Home Assistant Cinema Mode (Premium) fires a webhook to your Home Assistant instance whenever you play, pause, or stop a video. See the Home Assistant Cinema Mode page for the full setup guide.
Can I use WatchPass on Android TV?
Yes. If the server admin has purchased WatchPass via the JellyWatch mobile app, all users who log into JellyWatch for Android TV automatically receive the WatchPass interface. No extra steps are required for the user.
My TV remote does not type text easily - what can I do?
- Use the Quick Login option on the login screen to connect with a code instead of typing a password.
- Connect a Bluetooth keyboard to your TV for faster text input.
- Use the Google TV / Android TV remote app on your phone.
- Use voice input if your remote has a microphone button.
The video is juddering on 24p content - how do I fix it?
Enable Match Refresh Rate in Settings → Playback. This switches your TV display to 24 Hz (or a multiple thereof) during playback, eliminating the 3:2 pulldown judder.
Home screen channels are not showing up
- Ensure JellyWatch has the TV Data permission (Android TV Settings → Apps → JellyWatch → Permissions).
- Open JellyWatch and navigate to the Home screen to trigger a channel update.
- Return to the Android TV launcher - channels should appear within a few seconds.
- Some launchers (e.g. custom Fire TV launchers) may not support the TvProvider API.
The screensaver activates too quickly / too slowly
Adjust the inactivity timeout in Settings → Screensaver.
Can I watch content without being an admin?
Yes. Any valid Jellyfin user account can log in. If the server admin has WatchPass active, you get the full WatchPass interface. Without WatchPass, you still have access to your personal library and can play content.
Which Jellyfin server version is required?
Jellyfin 10.8 or newer is recommended. Some features (SyncPlay, QuickConnect) require specific server-side support - check your server version in Jellyfin Settings.
Does JellyWatch for Android TV support Amazon Fire TV?
Yes. A dedicated Fire TV flavour is available on the Amazon Appstore. It uses the Amazon In-App Purchasing SDK instead of Google Play Billing.
